Commute from Hell

I am sure many of you have had bad commutes in your life and if you were going to work today it was right up there. I have had many horrid stories but this morning was pretty good.

Mary Anne worked at the Castro Valley Walgreens this morning so I hitched a ride with her to the BART station. Of course, there are BART delays and the Castro Valley station is one of those stations in the middle of the freeway. I stood up there freezing for a good 20 minutes. The good thing was, at least I got a seat!

The BART ride was fine. It was stuffy in there but we were crawling. All the trains were traveling at much reduced speeds. I even heard an announcement at the BART station "Don't expect any train to be on time."

Unfortunately, after BART i still have a 20 min. walk to get to work. I was going to take the Muni but didn't have enough change. When I out at the Civic Center station the rain is pretty bad but the wind is worse. I have one of those super big, super strong umbrella's that has never turned inside out. Well, today, not only did it turn inside out, all the prongs bent and I couldn't close it. My pants were soaked in like 2 minutes. I had to walk carefully because I was slipping everywhere. I didn't want to walk back with the messed up umbrella so I went into an office building and took about 10 minutes trying to fix it.

I was so tired from walking against the wind, I stopped and ate breakfast at Burger King. At BK, the cashier was slow to take my order and not customer friendly. When I stepped to the counter, he asked me what I would like, then I said some stuff, and he just turned around and started doing other stuff. He finally said hold on without making eye contact. It took like 10-15 minutes for a ham sandwich and hash brown. And my ham sandwich just came in whopper bread! Where is my croissant? I asked them and they said they were out. I was tired and just wanted to leave. I ran the last couple blocks, avoiding rivers in the street. Still, i stepped in the white water rapids on van ness and my socks were all wet. I just used a new pair of Gold Toes today too!

I was finally at the office. I opened the back door with my office key. I walked in then...BOOM!

I fell right on my butt, elbow and wrist. My right wrist is all jacked as I write.

I struggle to get up as two coworkers look at me with concern. When I finally get to my cube, my pants are drenched. I look in my file cabinet and see some gym shorts and socks. I change into them and become an object of ridicule with my gym socks, basketball shorts, and dress shirt. It was actually pretty hilarious. I have finally put my pants back on as I used a coworkers heater to dry it up. My shoes are getting dried right now. It was a pretty hilarious site. I should have taken a picture. sorry guys.

wow, that sounds almost as tough as double days at El Camino! you should have done some grass joes when you were on the ground. hope your wrist and a$$ are feeling better. but at least your outfit wasn't as bad as someone who had to wear a UMEN sweatshirt, silver gym shorts, black dress socks, & black dress shoes to In N Out.
