Yesterday, my coworkers and I were going to use our lunch break to go to Justin Herman Plaza and see the Olympic Torch. I love the Olympics. I love the overinflated athlete profiles about how someone overcame wars and amazing odds just to be in the Olympics. I love how these games brings nations together. That torch symbolizes so many great things. That being said, I also support the Free Tibet protestors. I just do not believe that teh Olympics is more about the athletes than the countries.
Anyway, I was looking up the torch route and listening to the radio. I finally decided that the crowds are too big and that we just wouldn't be able to make it. So during my lunch hour, I just start walking around for some exercise, listening to my discman. On the radio, they just kept talking about how the torch disappeared into a pier and no one can find where it is for like half an hour. I decided to head back to my office when all of a sudden, I hear a couple helicopters. Then a bunch of vans, police cars and buses start rolling up Van Ness. The radio then starts saying that the Torch is on Van Ness! What? I walk faster and its right there. Cops and runners are surrounding a torch as it moves north up Van Ness. It was right there.
After all that, I ended up seeing it anyway. It felt great. I got chills up my back and it made my day. After reflecting, I began to feel bad for all those thousands of people that really were waiting to see the torch. But for one day, I was the lucky one. I can't wait for the Olympics. "Give me One Moment in Time, When I am more than i thought I could be..."
