Last night, Mary Anne came home with the mail in her hands. She opened up a letter from Sears and frustratingly asked if I had signed up for another credit card. I jumped up from the couch and said NO. I looked at the letter and someone had tried to open up a credit card in my name. This morning I called Sears and let them know that I did not apply for a card. Apparently, the person who applied for the card did so online and had my name, SS#, and address.
Now I have to check my credit reports to make sure no other cards have recently been issued because there is no one to talk to at the credit agencies unless you already have a report in hand. But the worst, is the sense of violation. It just sucks. There is so much hassle and so many annoying things that I have to handle because of this. I know this has happened to many other people but it doesn't make it any easier. I am pretty careful about releasing my information. Yeah sure, I can blurt out my feelings like I am an open book on this blog, but I won't give up my secure data. For all you bastard hackers, if you need my passwords they are FU.
