prayers answered

With the announcement that Chris Cohan is looking for a buyer for his beleaguered franchise, Warrior fans had something to be happy about in March for the second time (third if you were still believing the year the Warriors won 48 games but didn’t make the playoffs) in Cohan’s 16 year reign. Fans have made pejorative comments about Cohan and his right hand man Robert Rowell for years. Cohan picked Nelson over Webber just to fire Nelson soon after, he hired the wrong coach year after year, he allowed St. Jean to make mistakes while sticking by his side, he brought in those crappy lightning bolt jersey, and he made Robert Rowell president. So understandably, just the thought of new ownership had many friends of mine blithely looking toward the future.

Here are some things the new ownership should do…

Number One, the first thing has to be kicking Robert Rowell to the curb. His ego wanted all the credit for the We Believe era but he only deserves credit for destroying it. Mullin was well respected among the league and he was instrumental in getting rid of him. So first and foremost, Rowell, YOU’RE FIRED!

Blow up this current roster. Even if this roster was fully healthy, it cannot be a winner. I loved watching Monta Ellis at the beginning of the year, he could be a star somewhere else, but he is not the type of player that Golden State can build around. Curry and Ellis is a great, exciting backcourt, but it is a backcourt that isn’t winning games. Curry has great basketball fundamentals and is just a good guy. Ellis has already complained about drafting Curry, he remains friends with Stephen Jackson, has fought with the coach, and still holds a grudge about his suspension.

Larry Riley and Don Nelson go bye bye. I actually like Nelson and haven’t forgotten the things he has done for this franchise but he looks disinterested on the sidelines. And he doesn’t coach defense. I love the Warriors fast paced style way more than the Spurs slow it down half court attack. But the Spurs dropped like 300 pts against the Warriors last week so what do I know. I know that Nelson may be just a bit out of touch. It is scary cuz the Warriors have had so many failed coaches over the past couple decades that getting rid of Nelson just might continue that cycle. As for Riley, does he even do anything or just sit there and listen to whatever Nellie says.

Bring in people and give the fans a sense of stability. The Warrior fans are the best in the NBA. Look at the passion and attendance over the decades of futility. How many other fans would stick by their team this long. ROARacle can make #1 seeds shrivel up and die. We deserve a team that can make the playoffs and even make a run at the championship. And with new ownership I am just looking forward to …FREEDOM!!!

I believe the Warriors without this negative Karma that has hovered over them with Cohan at the helm could actually win the lottery. Lets have a foundation with Curry, Randolph, and...Reggie Williams. Maybe get rid of some of the big salaries (Ellis, Maggette, Biedrins) and start fresh with a new owner and for the first time in years HOPE.
