What a Vick!

Michael Vick is one of the most talented athletes I have ever seen. He could run full speed one way and throw a ball on a lazer beam right to his receiver. I love watching him on the field because on any given play he can make something happen.

Everyone knows that Michael Vick will soon be going to jail because he led a dog fighting ring. I don't know if he grew up around this stuff, or what it was that made dog fighting intriguing to him. But the more I hear about what was done to these dogs, the more angry I get. I hated to judge him because I know that his posse could influence him and he could have just been caught up. I also know that cock fighting is common in the Philippines and I have seen it first hand. No one there thinks its grotesque and when you grow up with something it is hard to see that it is wrong. However, started this "business" two weeks after he signed his first NFL contract. It isn't something that just came up.

The worst is the way he killed the dogs that didn't want to fight. The stories of him, electricuting, drowing, hanging, or just beating the dogs to kill them have been all over the news. But I also heard that to find out if a dog was suitable to fight, the dog would be put in a cage or pit with a beagle (Snoopy is a beagle) and if the dog tore up the beagle then it was suitable to fight. Oh my goodness.

So I think Michael Vick was wrong for what he has done. During his apology, he was sorry but it felt like he still didn't think that it was that big a deal. He thinks that he is a big name that hurt some dogs, who cares? Thats what it looks like anyway. It isn't like he beat his wife or killed someone. I mean, isn't T.O. still worse of a person? Well, T.O. didn't break the law. Off the field Owens may be the worst teammate ever, as he has been known to rip his McNabb, Garcia, and his coaches. But Vick killed dogs for the fun of it and didn't see anything wrong with it. And he did it for years!

I really can't pass judgement on Vick. Really, I can't pass judgement on anybody. I think his acts were disgusting and he should be punished. I hope that he truly is sorry. Who knows if he will ever play football again. I hope he can comeback from this because the talent he possesses is truly amazing. He never fully developed that talent and now, he probably will never get the most out of it.

When Mike Tyson came back after being in jail, most fans supported him. Of course, he regressed with more mistakes. Vick will pay for his crime and I would be willing to sit and root for him again...unless he was a cowboy.

I agree with your points.

I really believe that during Vick's upbringing this kind of stuff was completely acceptable and actually a form of "ghetto" entertainment....to him, it is what it is.....dogs killing each other....those you couldn't hang, were killed.....it's really sad but what's worse is that he is a product of his environment. Think about how many other kids on the U.S. are brought up in these exact same conditions.....and we, as a society, ridicule them and pass judgement without even knowing for a second how it is to walk a day in their shoes.

With all that being said, it still does not excuse Vick for displaying some of the worst judgement known to man....I mean, his "hobby" is going to cost him $100 million and also significant time in jail......possibly jeapordizing his career but for some reason, I don't believe that. We're talking about a society who completetly forgot about what Latrell Sprewell has done over the past ten years....a society who turns a blind eye to athletes driving drunk, stabbing/shooting people at strip clubs, essentially having a mini-militia at one's house.......Vick will be back.....although, he will be missing a part of his prime picking up the soap for a fella' called Bubba.
