At a friends kids birthday party, everyone started playing the Nintendo Wii. There were some intense games of tennis. Every game seemingly was competitive. There was a lot of yelling (M.L.) and a good time was being had by all.
After awhile, we played one game of bowling with four different players. Everyone was joking after each frame and it was a lot of fun. Anyway, i started the game with five strikes in a row and just got quiet. The next four frames, I threw it perfectly. Everything was set up for the tenth frame. But right after I threw that ninth strike in a row, Josephine blurted out sarcastically, "oh wow, nine strikes in a row, i bet he can't get 10...blah, blah, blah."
Everyone knows you don't say anything when things are rolling. You don't tell the person at the craps table who is racking up the chips, "hey you're really lucky tonight." When Jason Schmidt was throwing a no hitter against the red sox, no one said a word. Then some guy that none of the regular bleacher people knew saw some girl that he recognized. they talked for half an inning but before he left, he said, "it looks like we are going to get a no hitter today." Everyone around me was like "ARE YOU KIDDING ME" (in their heads). The whole section wanted to kick his butt. And it was that same batter that was batting when he made his stupid comment that would go on to get the only hit of the game for the red sox. You just don't do that.
Anyway, Josephine left the room for fear of me not finishing off the perfect game. I set up just like I had for the first ten frames. I did everything the same but I must have not flicked my wrist as strongly. the break on the ball started a little bit later than usual. The ball still hits the head pin strong but this time, after the initial explosion of pins one pin remained(it was either the 2 or the 4). I fell down to my knees and sunk my head. I choked. Its just a video game but I wanted it. Its not something I play often and its just not easy to do. I didn't even get mad at her. It was me. I choked. I finally rose back to my feet after a couple minutes, not caring how I finished the game. I spared it off and threw a strike to finish the tenth leaving me with a bitter 279.
But this is a public service announcement. If someone is rolling, don't say anything. Don't ruin the Karma. Don't bring it to everyone's attention. People know. Just let it be.
And on another note, when you are that close, you can either just think you will never get that close again or you can keep trying. Winners lose more often than losers do cuz winners never stop trying. I will get that 300 and I will make sure Josephine is no where in sight! :)
