Faking?

Last week while playing in a basketball rec league I got fouled in the fourth quarter of a close game. I was shooting a free throw, made it, but one of my teammates was called for a lane violation due to FAKING? He was using his upper body to fake like he was going to box out early. Apparently you cannot do that. He didn't move his lower body at all. And maybe that is the rule but who really would call that? Sucked though. I looked this up on a non-official website hoopsvibe or something

"FREE-THROW VIOLATIONS. A free-throw violation by the thrower or the thrower’s teammates cancels the goal, if successful; and (unless another free throw is to follow) the ball is awarded to opponents out of bounds at the spot nearest to where the violation occurred. In this case, it would be the end line.

Such violations include:

Attempting the throw from anywhere except within the free-throw semicircle and behind the free-throw line.
Failure to throw within 10 seconds, or failure of the ball to enter the basket or touch the basket ring.
Occupancy of lane space nearest the basket by the thrower’ s teammate.
The free thrower having a foot on or above the free-throw line or any lane boundary until the ball has touched the ring or backboard.

Purposely faking a free-throw attempt or faking a violation (both teams).

If opponents commit violation (d) above or if they disconcert the free thrower by entering or leaving a lane space during the attempt, a substitute throw is awarded if the attempt is unsuccessful. If both teams commit a free-throw violation, the whole thing is called off and play is resumed by a throw-in.
Players not occupying a marked lane space may not enter the lane or other lane boundaries until the ball touches the ring or backboard or until the free throw ends."

I guess it was really the culmination of bad calls this ref has made throughout the season that really pissed us off. So many balls that were obviously out on the other team that he still gave them. I can count five blatently horrendous miscalls that weren't even close. He is just so lax going up the court and constantly makes calls he thinks he sees from the other side of the court. And there is also a lack of calls for us. Seriously, I don't like to blame the refs for everything but I think league-wide no one likes the refs.

There is one play in particular that always has our team busting up (only cuz we still won the game). I actually have this clip on video but I don't have video editing software to show you. Anyway, the other team is shooting a free throw. They make the free throw but that same team goes to take the ball out?! He grabs the made free throw, steps behind the baseline, and heaves the ball across the court (to our basket). One of his teammates was wide open (seemingly cuz he was going back to play defense) and he actually takes several dribbles toward our basket and jumps up about to shoot! I think in the middle of his jump he realizes, wait, this aint our basket, so he proceeds to pass it to another open teammate. This teammate knows that his basket is across the court. Our team is confused and trying to call time which we can't get cuz we don't have the ball. Their guy throws the ball to his own guy and they finally get by our baffled team and end up making a lay up. We call time, explain to the ref what happened and he allows their basket to count??? HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? I really need to find a way to post that play for you. I will work on it.
